Islamic countries expand economic cooperation

The D-8 summit has ended in Nigeria. It was participated by the Turkish President Abdulla Gul, heads of Iran and Nigeria, Premiers of Bangladesh and Egypt, as well as the ministers of Malaysia and Indonesia, TRT reports.


The summit started with the official ceremony of the meeting of the president of Nigeria, Gullak Jonathan with the participants of the organization. The summit saw bilateral negotiations, the most important of which was the talks of Gul and Ahmadinejad.


Besides nuclear disarming issues, uranium exchange, decisions of UN on embargo against Iran, Turkey expressed its views on the process of Iranian nuclear program progress.


At the summit Jonathan made a declaration on the global economic system getting more and more complicated.
At the second, closed for media, part of the meeting Gul made a speech.


The sides made a joint declaration on coping with the repercussions of the global crisis. The sides also made agreements on the development of joint investment activities and food security.


Turkey and Indonesia, being G20 members, demanded discussions of developing countries. At the same time, an Iranian delegation arrived representing the economic block. The first assistant of Iranian vice-president for economic affairs, Ali Aga Mohammadi, declared at the meeting with the Turkish Minister of Trade and Industry, Nigat Erugiun, that Turkey is ready for economic cooperation with Iran, Syria and Iraq.


Mohammadi noted that Iran and Turkey are connected by the Caspian, Red and Meditarrenian seas, which can be used for new routes, reducing transport expenses.


Nigat Erugiun pointed out the industrial zones in the Iranian-Turkish border. In the future other countries in the region could join the project. The industrial zone can become and industrial and technical center.


Then the Turkish minister of trade and industry noted the rising trade turnover of D-8 group, uniting 8 Islamic states.
