Informal summits with no specific agenda are traditional for the Commonwealth. The first meeting of this kind took place on the 8th August 2000, also in Yalta.

The CIS leaders arranged for an international conference on eliminating the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster, entitled "25 years after Chernobyl: protecting the future", to be held in Kiev in April 2011.
