Khamenei asks Parliament not to question Ahmadinejad

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei asked the country's parliamentary members not to question Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Mehr reported.

"If this issue goes any further, it will be exactly what Iran's enemies want," Khamenei said. "Therefore I ask the parliamentary members not to continue this case."

Khamenei made the remarks at a meeting with members of the country's Basij civilian forces.

After the Leader's speech, MP Avaz Heydarpour of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee said that the representatives who had signed a document calling for Ahmadinejad to be questioned had withdrawn their signatures.

Earlier this month, 77 MPs were reported to have signed a document calling for Ahmadinejad to be questioned.

On October 23, MPs decided to summon Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to parliament to answer a number of questions regarding Iran's economy.
