Egypt’s main opposition coalition is expected to take part in unity talks on Wednesday, called by the army to try to defuse the political crisis, Euronews reports.
The streets around the presidential palace in Cairo have calmed, following a day of demonstrations for and against Mohammed Mursi. Tension is high ahead of a referendum on a new constitution.
The president’s opponents suspect him of wanting to dictate an Islamist agenda.
Mursi-supporters also turned out in the capital and other cities such as in Alexandria.
They want the referendum to go ahead while the president’s critics want it postponed; judges say most will refuse to oversee it.
