Russia and India advocate peaceful nuclear program in Iran

Russia and India have reached an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.
"Both sides expressed their concerns over the situation around Iran and its
nuclear program. They reiterated their call to support a comprehensive and
lasting settlement of the situation, which can be realized only through
political and diplomatic means, through a dialogue," a joint statement
issued after the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India reads.

Russia and India recognize the right of Iran to continue the research,
production and use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes in compliance
with its international obligations, the document says. The leaders of the
countries called on Iran to comply with the relevant UN Security Council
resolutions and to cooperate with the IAEA "very closely."

Additionally, they have given a negative assessment of unilateral sanctions
against Tehran. During the official visit of Russian President Vladimir
Putin to India a number of documents have been signed, including a protocol
on consultations between the foreign ministries of Russia and India, a
memorandum on cooperation in the fields of science, technology and
innovation, as well as a cultural exchange program for 2013-2015.
