Armenia may establish South Caucasus peacekeeping centre

Armenia has proposed establishing a peacekeeping center in the village of Tekali of the Marneul region of Georgia to kick-start Armenian-Azerbaijani dialogue.

According to Tert.am, an expert involved with the "Integration of the South Caucasus:an alternate start“ initiative, Georgiy Vanyan, said that South Caucasian civilians support the idea. Tekali borders on both Armenia and Azerbaijan, and can be a center for meetings, conferences, trainings, projects.

Establishing the center may become the first step in expanding towards Armenia and Azerbaijan and creating a space of relations between the three countries. In the future there may be a free economic zone in the area, a tourist center and other facilities.

Within the framework of establishing the peacekeeping center they plan to lobby for projects at international organizations. The projects are aimed at repairing the Shulaveri-Kachagani road and provide Tekali and surrounding villages with drinking water.
