Russian deputy prosecutor general sees three objectives to end North Caucasus terrorism

Russian Deputy Prosecutor General Ivan Sydoruk says that the main goal in fighting crime in the North Caucasian Federal District is fighting crime, he told Kommersant for the Prosecutors’ Day marked on January 12.

He reminded that the federal district had over 270,000 people unemployed. The official figure is much greater. An average wage does not exceed 16,000 rubles in the region, compared with over 25,000 in Russia.

Sydoruk pointed out improvements in fights against economic crimes and corruption. The number of bribery cases registered increased by 15%, crimes committed by groups of people by 37%. However, preventive measures are still poor.

The deputy prosecutor general mentioned three basic aspects of fighting terrorism: prevention of its financing, blocking sources for militants’ weapons and ammunition and ending militant support. He believes that solving the three problems would end terrorism.

Sydoruk denied violations made by officers involved in special operations.
