Turkish President Abdullah Gul declared that the Turkish intelligence
service and police had been informed about the terrorist attack against
the U.S. Embassy in Ankara. The security forces were vigilant, but,
unfortunately, failed to prevent the crime, Abdullah Gul was
quoted as saying by the agency "Anatolia".
He added that the intelligence services and police warned the public authorities of
the country and representatives of foreign countries in Turkey.
A blast took place next to the American embassy in Ankara on February
1. One employee of the embassy was killed, one visitor was injured.
The organizer of the blast, a member of the Marxist terrorist group
"Party / Front for the Liberation of the Turkish people" Ecevit
Shanli, was also killed.
