The traditional Spiritual Administration of Muslims is not able to cope
with Wahhabism, only the state can defeat it. This idea was
expressed by the head of the Ulema Council of the Russian Association
of Islamic agreement (PARC - Russian mufti), the famous theologian and
preacher Farid Salman, in Kazan at a conference entitled "The religious
influence of the Northern Caucasus on the Volga region: the problem of
Islamic fundamentalism." "There is no scheme, apart from that of
Ramzan Kadyrov, to fight Wahhabism," Salman said .
The head of PARC said that by Kadyrov's methods he meant supporting
traditional Islam and refusal to negotiate with the Wahhabis,
"Interfax" says.
In addition, the theologian gave a brief outline of the influence of
the North and Wahhabi Muslims in the Tatarstan Republic. In his opinion,
it can be divided into three periods. The first phase went from the
collapse of the Soviet Union till the Second Chechen War (1991 -
1999). The second period was the time of the most favorable contacts
between the Wahhabis of the Caucasus and the Volga; it covers the time
when Gusman Iskhakov (1999 - 2011) chaired the Spiritual Board of Muslims
of Tatarstan. The third period is the last three years, when the
impact of destructive processes in the religious field of the North
Caucasus became obvious in the Volga region.
