Kyrgyz ex-president gets 24 years of prison

The Military Court of the Bishkek Garrison has sentenced Kyrgyz ex-President Kurmanbek Bakiyev to 24 years of prison and confiscation of property and sentenced his brother Zhanybek Bakiyev, who is hiding in Belarus, for life and property confiscation, ITAR-TASS reports.

Bakiyev lost power in a revolution on April 7, 2010. 97 people were killed and about 500 injured in clashes with state forces at the central square of Bishkek. Bakiyev fled to Minsk. Belarus refuses to extradite the former president, despite his excess of power.
