Russian President Vladimir Putin has introduced Elvira Nabiullina, former Minister for Economic Development, as a candidate to become the new President of the Russian Central Bank, replacing Sergey Ignatyev.
She may become the second female president of the Russian Central Bank in history.
Putin met Nabiullina and Ignatyev on March 12. Ignatyev has been heading the bank since March 2002 and will resign in June 2013. Candidates for president of the Central Bank are introduced by the president and appointed by the parliament for four years. Candidates need introduction 3 months ahead, before March 23.
