Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said that parliamentary opposition will only approve constitutional amendments limiting presidential authorities only under rated voting.
Constitutional amendments need two thirds of votes, or 100 out of 150. The constitutional majority needs 6-7 votes, according to Saakashvili.
Discussions of the amendments were set for March 21. Should they be passed, the president will not be allowed to dissolve the government and form a new one without the parliament’s approval.
Saakashvili criticized Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili’s policy and noted that some opposition votes were achieved by bribe and pressure.
A representative of the parliamentary majority Zakaria Kuntsnashvili said that Saakashvili’s proposal for rated voting was a violation of regulations.
