Georgian president passes constitutional amendments

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has signed the constitutional amendments limiting his authority, ITAR-TASS cites Speaker of Parliament David Usupashvili.

The parliament passed the amendments on March 25. The president no longer has the authority to dissolve and form a new government without the parliament’s approval. The old rules adopted in early 2004, allowing the president to form the government at own will, are no longer in force.
