Georgian State Minister for Reintegration Paata Zakareishvili believes that Parliament should soften the law "On occupied territories." "Mistakes made by Saakashvili, will be corrected. The law "On occupied territories" remains. However, it will be softened, as there are foreign nationals who have nothing to do with the occupation and will receive damage from this law," Paata Zakareishvili said today.
The Minister noted that he meant "those citizens who do not know anything about the occupation and, visiting Georgia through Abkhazia or South Ossetia, get in Georgian prisons," he was quoted as saying by "Interfax".
Zakareishvili explained that the amendments to be made to the law will not remove the responsibility for trespassing, but for the first case of trespassing there will be a fine of 400 laris ($240), and in the case of repeated violations the detainee will be held criminally responsible with imprisonment for a term of two to four years.
The Georgian parliament held a discussion on the amendments to the law "On occupied territories." The parliamentary opposition, represented by Saakashvili's "United National Movement" (UNM), is strictly against their adoption.
