Former Russian finance minister Alexander Livshits died today aged 66.
Livshits served as presidential aide for the economy from 1994 to 1996 and as deputy prime minister and minister of finance from 1996 to 1997. He was believed to be a prominent specialist in finances.
"His intelligence, energy and sense of humour saved the finance ministry and the whole country," former deputy prime minister, current leader of the opposition People's Freedom Party and one of the most prominent opponents of the Putin regime, Boris Nemtsov, says.
