Baku is hosting the first South Caucasus Forum, organized by the State Committee for Diaspora, Nizami Ganjavi International Center and the Madrid Club. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban opened the forum, AZE.az reports.
About 200 political figures from over 40 countries of the world are attending the meeting. Queen Noor of Jordan, special advisor of UN secretary general Nafis Sadeq, ex-presidents, including Turkish ex-President Suleyman Demirel, and about 400 officials are attending the talks.
Ismail Serageldin, a co-chair of the board of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center and director of the Alexandria Library, opened the forum, followed by President Ilham Aliyev.
Aliyev noted that the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict was a threat to peace and stability in the region. He reminded that Armenia occupied seven districts of Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh. Aliyev added that four resolutions of the UN were ignored by Armenia for 20 years.
The president characterized relations with Georgia as a good example of regional cooperation.
