8 people will take part in the Iranian presidential elections scheduled for June 14th. The ballot will not include former president Hashemi Rafsanjani, who is known as one of the major opponents of incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
These 8 candidacies have been approved by Iran's Guardian Council of Constitution.
Among the qualified conservative candidates are Iran's nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili, Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, former foreign minister Ali-Akbar Velayati, senior lawmaker Gholam- Ali Haddad-Adel, and former senior military commander Mohsen Rezaei, Xinhua reports
Iran's former nuclear negotiator Hassan Rouhani and former oil and telecommunication minister Mohammad Gharazi, the moderate candidates, are reported as being qualified by the Guardian Council, the enws agency informs.
According to the reports, Mohammad-Reza Aref who served as the former Iranian first vice president under the reformist President Mohammad Khatami is also among the approved presidential hopefuls.
