The EU monitoring mission in Georgia calls barbed wire in the Tskhinvali Region unacceptable and believes that it may destabilize the region, head of the monitoring mission Andzej Tiskevic says.
He arrived at the administrative border yesterday and plans to present his observations in a report on May 31. He noted that barbed wire was an obstacle for freedom of movement for the local population.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry said earlier that Russian border guards laid barbed wire from Ditsi in the Gori District to Dvani in the Karelia District bordering with the Tskhinvali Region of Georgia. The ministry passed a protest note to Russia through the Swiss Embassy yesterday.
