Free Zone activists detained for insulting Putin in Tbilisi

Parnavaz Chkadua and David Gogokhia, activists of the Free Zone Movement, were detained by the Georgian police at the Palace of Labour Unions during a meeting of Social Democrats attended by Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili yesterday.

The Tbilisi City Court will consider their case today. The activists were protesting against the arrest of Merabishvili and the situation in South Ossetia. They were detained after shouting insults against Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Georgy Kandelaki, a member of the parliamentary minority, noted that it was the first detention of insulting Putin at the Tbilisi center. They have been released and are not allowed to leave the city.

Nino Giorgobiani, head of the PR service of the Georgian Interior Ministry, said that a passer-by was also detained in the incident.

The activists plan a demonstration against Putin at the Tbilisi City Court.
