Russian opposition activists march through downtown Moscow

Some 18 thousand people gathered today in downtown Moscow in order to protest against Vladimir Putin's policies and persecutions of his opponents, Ekho Moskvy reports on Wednesday.

The protesters marched from Kaluzhskaya Square to Bolotnaya Square, where a massive rally was held after the December 2011 parliamentary elections.

Many opposition figures, including Alexey Navalny and leaders of the liberal People's Freedom Party Mikhail Kasyanov and Vladimir Ryzhkov, took part in the event.

Various leftist groups, nationalists and LGBT activists took part in the opposition march.

No serious incidents marred the event.
