Gocha Dzasokhov, President of the Assembly of Georgian Peoples, has commented on the Geneva Discussions attended by the delegations of Georgia, Russia, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and the US under the auspices of the UN, EU and OSCE this week.
The official said that it would take a lot of time to gain mutual trust. The sides accuse each other of hindering signing of a treaty on non-use of force. Dzasokhov, a mediator of the talks for many years, has urged the sides to concentrate on achievements, such as release of South Ossetian and Georgian convicts with the help of the Georgian-Ossetian Mission.
The official reminded that the mission headed by Rezo Amashukeli sent a letter requesting their release in Sukhumi and Tskhinvali. He added that the Georgian Patriarchy assisted in the process. 20 people remain convicted in South Ossetia. They were detained during the rule of Saakashvili. The Georgian-Ossetian Mission hopes that they will be released by the end of the year.
