Russia to give South Ossetia over 160 million dollars for infrastructure development

Russia will grant the Republic of South Ossetia 5 billion rubles (nearly 170 million dollars) in 2010. This money is meant for such large infrastructural projects as "building roads and a water supply system for the capital Tzkhinvali", said Russian deputy Minister for Regional Development, Roman
Panov. Speaking at the session of the intergovernmental commission on social and economic development cooperation between Russia and South Ossetia, Panov also said that the money will be used to build gas supply systems and two helicopter airfields. The latter will be used for air-navigation.

Panov recalled that South Ossetia will receive a total of 5.7 billion rubles (190 million dollars) from Russia this year. Most of the money will be used for large infrastructure projects, and the remaining 21 million dollars will go towards the completion of ongoing economic recovery programs.
