Georgian president says his country is moving backwards

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili says his country is moving backwards after 9 years of successful development. The president said so at a joint press conference with his Moldova's counterpart.

The president noted however that this regress in temporary.

"History is never developing straightforward, but rather makes zigzags. That's what we are experiencing now, but I believe this regress is temporary. We managed to establish strong democratic instituations that no one is able to destroy," Saakashvili said.

He also praised the Georgian anti-corruption campaign, which he believes to be the most successful in Europe. He also said that the last parliamentary elections brought to power forces that had previously supported the corrupt regime.
