Iran has revealed the reasons for detaining the Indian-registered crude oil tanker Desh Shanti, which was on its way to India from Iraq, Trend reported.
The ship, which is owned by the Shipping Corporation of India, has been reported by the Marine Emergency Mutual Aid Centre (MEMAC).
The head of Sea Pollution department of the Iranian Environment protection organization, Nima Pourang, said that the tanker discharged oily ballast water 30 miles from Lavan Island in the Persian Gulf, which caused a 10-mile length oil slick on the sea," Trend quotes the official.
"Right now, the experts of Iranian ports and maritime organization are inspecting the tanker," he said, adding that all ships that pass through Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman must report possible pollution to MEMAC.
