Member states of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States have held a summit in Gabala today. As a result of the event, the presidents of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan issued a joint declaration.
The declaration hailed further cooperation between the Turkic countries. Among the fields of cooperation were named transport, trade and investment. The countries of the Turkic Council are also expected to ease customs procedures, the declaration reads.
According to Azerbaijani lawmaker and political analyst Rasim Musabekov, the most important thing is that the Turkic project has not been cancelled, like many other initiatives. This shows that the member-states are really interested in the project. "I believe the parties will enhance their efforts in order to intensify mutual cooperation," he says.
Turkish analyst Togrul Ismail believes the importance of the event is evident, due to the presence of Turkmen deputy prime minister Sapardudu Touliyev. According to Ismail, the Turkic project is developing step-by-step. No serious changes are expected, he says.
