Today, August 19, a group of UN experts on chemical weapons began their work in Syria.
20 experts arrived in Damascus to investigate the alleged use of chemical weapons in the conflict between the supporters of President Bashar al-Assad and members of the armed opposition, the Associated Press reports.
Syrian authorities have previously expressed willingness to cooperate fully with the group of experts led by Swedish Professor Åke Selstrema. The team of UN inspectors was formed at the request of Damascus in March, a few days after the chemical attack by militants on the outskirts of Aleppo, in which 26 people were killed and 86 were injured.
