Turkey's AKP officials express grief over death of Gezi protester

Tukey's ruling Justice and Democracy Party's (AKP) officials have expressed outrage over the beating to death of a Gezi Park protester, after new video footage of the incident came to light, Hürriyet Daily News reports.

AKP's İzmir lawmaker and former Culture Minister Ertuğrul Günay wrote on Twitter on August 22 that “nobody should talk about justice and victims in other countries before those who killed Ali İsmail Korkmaz get the penalty they deserve.”

University student Ali İsmail Korkmaz, aged 19, died of a brain haemorrhage on July 10 after spending 38 days in a coma in the northwestern Turkish town of Eskisehir, where he was beaten during an anti-government demonstration in June.

Four people, including a police officer, have been arrested so far in the framework of the investigation.
