Turkey needs no security from a possible attack by Syria at this stage, but if a strike is launched the allies will discuss a response, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen told a press conference in Brussels.
“I think at the moment there is no need for extra security for Turkey from a possible threat by Syria. All our plans on the security of Turkey and the Turkish people are effective. However, if Turkey is attacked we will consider it an attack on us all. And the allies will discuss a possible response,” he said, RIA Novosti reports.
Turkey has many times stated its intention to be involved in the situation to hold Assad’s regime to account and called for the international community to do the same.
The Turkish authorities don’t think Syria can attack the country. Such a step is thought to be “madness and suicide” by the Turkish side.
