Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan to be leaders of Turkic alliance

Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan can become leaders of a Turkic alliance in the near future, the director of the Center of Socio-Political Studies, Vladimir Yevseyev, thinks.

He stated his opinion at a round-table discussion “Turkic people and Turkic languages in the context of globalization”, which took place in the press center of the Kazakh embassy in Russia.

At the discussion scientists and experts discussed prospects for the Council for Cooperation between Turkic-Speaking States, which was founded in September 2010 in Istanbul with the participation of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the prime minister of Turkey. At the moment the problem of improving economic ties between the countries is being discussed.

“At the moment Turkey is not ready for being a leader in the alliance,” Yevseyev noted. “Its intensive participation in Syrian affairs brings more and more problems and internal instability.” Apparently, Turkey, “which is deep in domestic affairs”, cannot make major financial investments, Vladimir Yevseyev thinks: “This opens opportunities for Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.”

Participants in the discussion also spoke about the achievements of the International Turkic Academy, which was established in 2010 in Astana. Its main goal is coordination of development of Turkish studies.

“This year we managed to attract about 80 well-known Turkish experts from all over the world to joint studies,” a senior scientist of the Academy, Kayrbek Rizabekuly Kemenger, said.
