The UN General Assembly passed a resolution at the 98th plenary session of the 67th session to create the Eurasian Connectivity Alliance (EuraCA) and TASIM construction, Trend reports.
Israel, Turkey, Georgia, Belarus, Moldova, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand voted for the resolution.
The EuraCA will encourage cooperation in development of information and communication technologies.
TASIM is a project to lay fiber-optic cables between West Europe and East Asia. A transit zone between Frankfurt and Hong Kong will be created. A network will be established through Azerbaijan, Turkey, Georgia, China, Kazakhstan and Germany. An alternate line will run through Russia, Ukraine and Poland.
Rostelecom (Russia), KazTransCom (Kazakhstan), TurkTelecom (Turkey), ChinaTelecom (China) and Azertelekom (Azerbaijan) are involved in the TASIM initiative. 20 states will be connected within the framework of the project.
