Iranian Minister of Energy Majid Namju has reported on the recent agreement between Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan concerning realization of a joint project for energy supplies, Iran News reports.
Namju mentioned the summit of presidents of Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan in Tehran and he said that they discussed political, economic and social issues. The most significant result of the summit is the confirmation of expanding trilateral cooperation.
One of the most interesting projects is the joint project of Persian language countries on energy supplies to Afghanistan. Iran is currently constructing the ‘Sangutdin-2’ power plant in Tajikistan. Tajik specialists are building a power line from it to connect with Afghanistan. At the same time, an Iranian company is building two sub-power plants for the power line.
Afghanistan is building a power network using credits from the Islamic Development Bank.
Namju noted that the three countries are interested in energy supplies. He expressed hope that the construction will have been completed by the Independence Day of Tajikistan on September 9th, 2011.
