US President Barack Obama has rejected the idea of an immediate strike on Syria, after Russia's proposal to establish international control over chemical weapons in Syria, because Obama himself was seeking an opportunity to avoid a military scenario, which was already evident at the G20 summit in Strelna, the expert of the Russian Council on International Affairs, Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Petr Stegny told VK.
"Why? I think that the main reason has something to do with what the experts were saying: the extreme weakness of the version that the weapons were used by the Assad regime,” Stegny said. He also added that the evidence presented to public opinion in support of this statement was “a mockery of common sense.”
"Of course, it is too early to talk about a final settlement of the conflict,” Stegny said, explaining that the procedure to establish control over the chemical weapons will take a lot of time.
As for the sensational article by Vladimir Putin in The New York Times, in which the president of Russia spreads out Russia's position on the Syrian crisis and criticizes the American stance on the conflict, Stegny does not consider it is intended to irritate Washington.
Stegny also called the present situation unique and “win-win”, since both parties benefit from the victories of each other.
