The Russian Institute of Strategic Studies has hosted a conference "The geopolitical results of the "August War": Lessons and Challenges." The August war in South Ossetia ended a while ago, and now it's time to discuss its results, Yana Amelina, one of the conference moderators said today. The conference raised questions of global geo-strategy and geopolitics, as it is clear that South Ossetia and Georgia, as well as Russia, do not operate n a vacuum. They belong to the macro-region of the Greater Caucasus. Everybody there is interconnected and among the major players in this area is not only our state, but also other major regional powers such as Turkey and Iran. This has also been discussed here today," Amelina said.
The chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of North Ossetia, Khadzhimurat Gatsalov, in turn believes that the main result of the five-year change in the geopolitical situation in the Caucasus is the recognition of the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia by Russia. Psychology and political expert Adigozal Mammadov commented on Azerbaijan in the context of Russian-Georgian relations. "I want to emphasize that our peoples have always lived in these lands, they share centuries-long ties. We have always lived together," Mamedov said.
