Turkey’s Peace and Democracy Party wants more reforms

Gultan Kisanak, leader of the Turkish Peace and Democracy Party, said that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s democratic reforms proposed on Monday were insufficient and could not solve the problem of national minorities, RIA Novosti reports.

The reforms include permits for private schools to hold lessons in the Kurdish language, the restoration of the Kurdish names of some cities in Turkey, and the abolishment of fines for use of the Kurdish alphabet.

Kurdish militants stopped withdrawing from Turkey on September 9 as a response to the refusal of Turkey to continue democratic processes for the Kurds. They promised to keep the armistice in force.

Tens of thousands of people have died in the Turkish-Kurdish conflict.
