The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is the main international body acting in Central Asia, the head of the analysis centre of the Institute for International Research of the Moscow State Institute of Foreign Affairs, Andrey Kazantsev, says.
"All western countries, including the Nato member states, are interested in the activities of the CSTO. Why? We all know that in 2014 the Nato forces are going to leave Afghanistan. People all over the world are worried about this. (...) The challenges the whole world, including Russia, are facing in such circumstances are really great," he says.
Among such challenges the expert named drug-trafficking, extremism and terrorism.
According to Kazantsev, in such circumstances the CSTO should enhance its efforts to strengthen stability in the region.
