Chechen parliament supports initiative of Kadyrov to rename his post

The parliament of Chechnya is already looking for variants to rename the post of the head of the republic.

Vestnik Kavkaza reported that on August 12th, before going on vacation, Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov had sent an official letter, requesting changes to the title of his post as the head of Chechnya. He is confident that he does not have the right to be called ‘president’. Kadyrov said that he would accept any other term for his post, which would improve the hierarchy of power in Russia.

Chairman of the Chechen parliament Dukuvakha Abdurakhmanov said that, although the parliament is in recess, the initiative will be considered at a non-scheduled session. The titles proposed so far are Mekh-da (father of the country, nation) and Imam. The chairman also said that he supports the initiative.

The co-chair of the executive committee of the Interreligious Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States, executive director of the International Islamic Mission Mufti Shafig Pshikhachov, believes that the head of modern Chechnya cannot be called imam because the term has always referred to religious figures, Interfax reports.
