Georgia invited to Eastern Partnership summit

Georgia has officially been invited to the coming summit of the Eastern Partnership to be held in Vilnius soon.

The official invitation was signed by Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė, Chairman of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy and President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso.

The invitation was delivered by Lithuanian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrius Krivas. The official said that his country, as the incumbent chair of the European Union, paid special attention to the Eastern Partnership project.

The Eastern Partnership is an initiative of the European Union governing their relationship with the post-Soviet states of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, intended to provide a venue for discussions of trade, economic strategy, travel agreements, and other issues between the EU and its eastern neighbors.
