Defense ministers of member and non-member states of the NATO met in Brussels. Georgia was represented by Defense Minister Irakly Alasania, Georgia Online reports.
NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen emphasized the transfer of responsibility for Afghan security from the NATO to national forces.Alasania repeated the decision of the Georgian government again, stating that Georgian troops will stay in Afghanistan after 2014.
The minister added that he had had bilateral talks with partners and had informed them about military reforms. He emphasized that Georgia was looked upon as a strong and reliable partner and needed political and economic preparations in order to achieve NATO membership. Alasania concluded that it was only a matter of time.
