The character of the current round of Geneva talks on Iranian nuclear crisis has been changed. As Iran is represented by its Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, the member-states of the 5+1 group (the USA, the UK, France, Russia, China and Germany) decided to replace deputy foreign ministers with the ministers themselves as heads of delegations. That is why John Kerry, Laurent Fabius, William Hague and Guido Westerwelle are now heading to Geneva and the talks will probably last longer than expected.
Vestnik Kavkaza discussed the matter with member of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Sazhin.
According to the expert, Western foreign ministers decided to take part in the conference in order to balance the Iranian delegation headed by Minister Zarif.
It also shows that some serious agreements may be signed in the framework of the talks, the scholar believes.
