He predicts to continuing the same path would result in an anti-Russian trend, destructive for the country. Personally, Karaganov said that he would call any nationalism a crime against people. The expert considers it a crime against traditional values, basis of the country. According to him, people were attempting to build patriotism in a situation when the majority of the population and the elite were unpatriotic, on nationalism.
Karaganov said that building patriotism on nationalism would mean dropping the ball on the country for the second time in 25 years. He reminded that the communist regime’s administration according to the ethnic nature resulted in what had happened in 1991. Although nationalism back then had been a lot less influential.
