The OPCW will hire private companies to destroy about 700 tons of chemicals in Syria, Associated Press reports.Damascus declared 1,300 tons of chemicals and precursors used for production of chemical weapons and over 1,200 unfilled munition.
The OPCW adopted a plan for destruction of Syrian chemical arsenals and facilities. Chemical weapons will be removed from Syria by February 5, 2014, the most dangerous of them by late 2013. Over 60% of unfilled munition has been destroyed, the rest will be destroyed no later than on January 31, 2014. Syrian facilities producing chemical weapons will be gradually destroyed from December 15, 2013, to March 15, 2014. The OPCW executive council ordered the director general to found a purpose program to finance destruction of chemical weapons.
