Tehran believes that the report of the US State Department is prejudicial and says that there is no basis for considering that Iran supports terrorism, a spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Ramin Mekhmanparast said.
On August 5th the US State Department published a report on the fight against terrorism, in which Iran was added to the list of states supporting terrorism, such as Bolivia, Venezuela and Nicaragua. Sudan, Syria and Cuba are still on the list, RIA Novosti reports, citing IRNA.
Mekhparast said that the US has a policy of double-standards against terrorism, for example the People’s Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI). He said that the cooperation of the PMOI with Western special services is obvious. He also named ‘Jundullah’ and the Kurdish ‘PJAk’ as organizations working against Iran.
Commenting on the military presence of the US and other countries in Afghanistan, the diplomat said that their ‘export of democracy’ has led to a multifold increase in drug production – the main source of financing terrorism and extremism.
The report of the State Department emphasizes Iranian support of Hamas and Hezbollah. The report says that it is an obstacle for peace efforts.
