Three former Ukrainian presidents - Leonid Kravchuk, Leonid Kuchma and Viktor Yushchenko - have called for talks between the country's authorities and the opposition, Ekho Moskvy reports on Wednesday.
The three former presidents issued a joint statement today, saying that the political crisis unfolding in Ukraine is a serious threat to the country's territorial integrity and independence.
The uprising started after the Ukrainian authorities refused to sign the associate membership agreement with the European Union at the recent summit of the Eastern Partnership initiative. Tensions increased after the police broke up an opposition rally on the Freedom Square on Saturday morning. On Sunday protesters captured Kyiv City Hall and stormed the residence of the Presidential Staff.
