France to decide on release request of Georgian ex-defense minister

The French court will make a decision on Georgian ex-Defense Minister David Kezerashvili’s request for release today, Trend reports.The Aix-en-Provence Court declined the first such request on October 31, said Kezerashvili’s lawyer Antonen Levi. The ex-minister is in a prison not far from Aix-en-Provence.Georgian prosecutors charged the ex-minister with helping criminals and using his authority to cover up illegal acts of others on January 30, 2013. Investigators say that Kezerashvili, while the Chief of Financial Police of the ministry, helped two local businessmen import ethyl spirit without paying custom fees to produce illegal cognac. Kezerashvili caused economic damage of $50 million, they say.
