Experts have discussed realization of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recommendations given to heads of religious administration in Ufa. The round-table conference entitled ‘How should Islam look in Russia?’ was attended by Abdurauf Zabirov, Mufti of the Penza Region, head of the Prosveshcheniye public organization, Leonid Syukiyaynen, a scientist of the Institute of State and Law, Ali Vyacheslav Polosin, a member of the board of the Fund for Support of Islamic Culture Science and Education, Yuri Mikhaylov, Editor-in-Chief of the Ladomir Center, Shafig Pshikhachev, Head of the International Islamic Mission organization.
Pshikhachev clarified that Putin’s speech in Ufa on October 22 meant that the government understood the role of religion in society. Pshikhachev said that religious figures felt responsible for their work. He noted that the Religious Council was formed for interaction of religions.
Mikhaylov noted that Putin pointed out the need to change the place and role of Islam in Russia. He believes that Islam should be an ally in development of the country. The West and the East should be the wings of Russia, Mikhaylov says.
