Iranian and Afghan Presidents Hassan Rouhani and Hamid Karzai signed an agreement on friendship and cooperation, said Karzai’s spokesman Aymalah Fayzi, 1news.az reports.
Fayzi explained that the document was a long-term agreement on cooperation in politics, economic issues, security and culture. A security agreement was signed by the two states in the summer.
Rouhani spoke out against the presence of foreign troops in Afghanistan, calling them a source of tensions. He is also against any foreign forces in the Middle East and the Gulf, where the Fifth Fleet of the US is stationed in Bahrain.
US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said yesterday that the US was planning to intensify security cooperation in the region. He emphasized that the US will not leave the Gulf. Iranian Defense Minister General Hossein Dehghan called such statements a threat and said that they were influenced by Israel.
