Belarus will head the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in December, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko is ready to take the chairmanship, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said at the end of the two and a half hour-long summit in Yerevan, RIA Novosti reports.
Russia and Belarus have been having disagreements recently. The Kremlin noted the inconsistency of Lukashenko in some issues, including the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. According to a source in the Russian president’s administration, Lukashenko expressed readiness to recognize the independence of the two republics. But Lukashenko said that he did not give a promise.
