The Turkish government has introduced a bill on the formation of a system for the full monitoring of Internet users, Hurriyet reports.
A state agency will be controlling the Internet. It will have a wide range of authority for control over telecommunication systems. Turkish Internet providers will undergo certification and will be part of the new structure.
According to the project, every single user will have a profile with all information about websites visited, search requests, activeness in social networks. This would prevent illegal use of the Internet.
Websites for file exchange will be blocked. Officially, the government motivates such harsh measures by efforts to protect families, children and young people from violence, drugs and an immoral lifestyle.
Google compares Turkey with the harsh measures taken in Beijing. Turkish experts say that stricter control over the Internet will be taken to prevent protests. The opposition used social networks to organize and coordinate mass demonstrations in Istanbul in July 2013.
