Chechen Leader Ramzan Kadyrov has said that number one terrorist of the Caucasus and Emir of the Caucasus Emirate, Doku Umarov, is dead. The announcement was not a sensation, because the death of the terrorist leader had been announced in December 2013, although no proof has been presented.
Kadyrov said that the police had a record of telephone conversations of two militant leaders in Kabardino-Balkaria and Dagestan, who said that Umarov was dead and a successor should be elected. The Kabardino-Balkarian militant leader offered his Dagestani counterpart to become the new head of The Caucasus Emirate. The latter recommended a Chechen native, Vadalov, for the post.
Andrey Petrov, an expert of Vestnik Kavkaza, listed the following arguments that the terrorist was dead: Umarov’s last video message was made in the summer, when he threatened to ruin the Olympic Games; no one took responsibility for the recent Volgograd blasts, despite the eagerness of militants to call it an operation to ruin the Games.
It is possible that Umarov was killed in one of the operations in the North Caucasus and his body became unidentifiable. The terrorist structure seems fragmentized and has other problems to worry about than the Olympic Games in Sochi.
