The visits of Badr Jamous and Ahmad Jarba, leaders of the Syrian National Coalition, to Moscow after the first round of talks in Geneva are just extended contacts of the Syrian governmental and opposition delegations, says Andrey Baklanov, an advisor of the deputy head of the Federation Council of Russia, Deputy Head of the Association of Russian Diplomats.
The official notes that the visit of Jamous and Jarba to Moscow was scheduled long ago. The point is that the dialogue should be held without pre-conditions in order to resolve differences.
The diplomat expresses confidence that the next meeting of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with leaders of the National Coalition will be constructive. He says that new talks will be very fruitful, although no concessions from the opposition should be expected.
Baklanov predicts that Lavrov will discuss a new format of Geneva meetings. The sides need to reconstruct the negotiation process into three aspects: humanitarian problems, military issues and transitional structures.
They will discuss expansion of the opposition delegation, as mentioned by Lavrov at the Munich Security Conference.
